about

The Story of Imperfect Paradise, by Matt Hall.

Imperfect Paradise was recorded during 2010 and 2011 at the Art Institute (AI) in Burnaby, BC by Chad "HillyDilly" Hillard, and Mike Foster. This record was years in the making and by the time it was recorded we had been performing songs like Saturday Night, Fantasy and Imperfect Paradise dozens of times live. So when we got in the studio it was business time. Chad was an audio engineer student and planned to make a 3-4 track ep with us, then we recorded 9 band instrumentals in one night (till 6am) complete with the scratch vocals. Everyone was very excited and from then on we knew we would record a full length album at AI. At a later date Mike Foster (Chad's teacher) tracked the remaining 3 songs.

Lyrically Imperfect Paradise embodies what I wanted it to. Emotion and passion in songs like Shadow Love and Drama, philosophy and ideals in songs like Imperfect Paradise, Get Inside, and Logic, and something to kick in the door with Revolution. I feel proud to be recorded saying such lyrics as "The art spreads free across the globe/ and your food and clothes are produced close to home" and "We may be short on wealth/ but when the oil runs out we can support ourselves". These ideas and goals are shared by my family, friends and peers so I feel I am representing, truly. These messages attracted Madhu Bagga to our project. We met in the studio and she was excited to talk about the content of the songs and how much she was feeling what we were doing. Then she went in the booth and layed down her part for Shadow Love. That was the first time we heard her voice and we absolutely freaked, I'm getting goose bumps just thinking about it.

We had no idea the band would break not long after the recording of the album (Ted to Mexico and Da Anchor back to Czeck Republic). Although sad this has only added to how fortunate Eddie and I feel that we were able to record this record while they were still in Vancouver. The chords played by Ted and sickness of Da Anchors live drums make us long for the return of our bandmates, but what's meant to be will be. All those nights sweating it out in the jamspace, laughing, freestyling and giving our all equal this record, and I'm good with that.

I hope you enjoy the record. As one of our supporters states "Listen to the BC Trees music, it's good for the soul". We can only hope you agree.
